Dear Sir,

This is to inform you that I booked a parcel, ____________ (Place) consigned to____________ (Name) at____________ (Name of the Station) under Railway Receipt No, ____________, ____________ (Date). In normal course this consignment was to reach the destination latest within 4/5 days from the date of its booking; but as ill luck would have it the same is still untraceable although more than one month has already passed.

Since I have lost the hope of getting it located any longer by the Railways treating it as lost item in Railway transit/ I would request you to arrange to pay me the value of the parcel amounting to____________ (Amount) as compensation. In this connation, I am enclosing the R.R. and the invoice, in original valuing the consignment.

Your immediate action in the matter will be highly appreciated.
