Altering appearance of Indian coin with intent that it shall pass as coin of different description:

This section is similar to the preceding section but penalises altering the appearance of an Indian coin with the intention that it shall pass as a coin of a different description. The section says that whoever performs any operation on any Indian coin resulting into alteration in its appearance, with the intention the said coin shall pass as coin of a different description, shall be punished with simple or rigorous imprisonment for a term extending up to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The section requires performance of an operation on an Indian coin which alters the appearance of that coin. The intention of the accused must be that the said coin shall pass as a coin of a different description. The punishment under this section is severer than the previous section.
The offence under this section is cognizable, non-bailable and non-compoundable, and is triable by magistrate of the first class.
