The 3 Main Organizations which are working towards Providing Support to Solve Problems of Health and Hygiene in India are:
1. Local Bodies:
There are many organizations such as Municipal Corporations, town area committees, block level committees, Municipalities, etc. which look after the health and sanitation of the people at local level. Local organizations take steps to control spread of the diseases by creating awareness and ensuring adequate supply of medicines.
You must have seen notices and banners put up by the government agencies, from time to time, stating immunization programmes, etc. Such awareness is regularly created through nationwide campaigns against the spread of diseases such as malaria, dengue, AIDS, polio, leprosy and Hepatitis B.

Some of the important tasks, which the local organizations undertake are:
i. To maintain cleanliness by proper disposing off the sewage from the colonies.
ii. To provide safe and germ-free drinking water.

iii. To run various immunization (vaccination against various diseases) programmes and other health awareness programmes wherever there is danger of spread of a disease.
iv. To provide health education.
v. To maintain food standards, regular inspections at food stores, meat and milk outlets, etc.
vi. To prevent mosquito breeding, covering of open drains and pouring of kerosene on stagnant water, spraying of insecticides to kill insects.
2. National Organizations:

There are many agencies which are actively engaged in research to study health problems of the country. They also take adequate measures to control spread of a particular disease. Some programmes run by such organizations are:
i. The National Malaria Eradication Programme
ii. The Tuberculosis (TB) Eradication Programme
iii. National Immunization Programme
iv. National Pulse Polio Programme
v. Leprosy Mission
For these programmes they conduct regular surveys, identify causative organism of the disease, and also take prophylactic immunization and other measures to control spread of disease.
National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) located at Delhi is one such institute that is conducting research on infectious diseases. A nationwide ‘Pulse Polio’ program has been launched by government to eradicate poliomyelitis.
3. International Organizations:
There are some international organizations such as Red Cross Society and World Health Organization (WHO) that are concerned with people’s health.
