Dan Brown justifies the title of his poem “Lost” throughout the poem. In the very first line itself, he says “Lost in a world that scares me to death” which means that throughout his life until the time he dies, he was lost in the world while doing all the activities. He further says that he was lost as a boy and even as a man and he is not sure whether he will find himself in this lifetime or not.
Right from the time he gets up in the morning, he is lost, he is not sure of the fact that why is he born on the Earth and what goals is he destined to accomplish throughout his life. Dan Brown has portrayed great strength in the poem because in today’s world almost all individuals are lost, but still they do not accept this fact. As a result of being lost, they just function like machines, get up in the morning, do their work and go to sleep without actually thinking what really is their goal in life; the result is that they are actually lost.
The poet is also lost in worrying who he actually is and is scared of the fact that until his death he might not discover his real being, or what actually he is. Everyone, like the poet is lost in the kindness, in the love, and in all the comforts life has to offer. They are so much busy, lost as a matter of fact in their lives that they forget the fact that they are born to live freely and happily instead of living mechanically. One who understands the fact of why he is born is the only one who is not lost.
