It would be wrong to think that accidents are caused by big machines along. A small hand tool can cause an injury to the worker.
For example, a small knife can cut one’s finger or any other part of the body, if it is wrongly or carelessly used. Similarly, if a hammer is not used carefully if can cause injury.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Injury by hand tools is caused in two ways, firstly, through careless handling and secondly through defective tools.
Hand tools which are defective or not fit for use in any way, can harm the worker as well as the machines. For example, if one uses a blunt cutting tool it will not cut sharply. There are chances that it may slip and injure the worker.
Likewise, a weak tool may get broken while in use and hit the worker or someone working nearby. Therefore, the working hand tools must be in perfectly fit condition.
There are other kinds of small hand tools which can cause injury if one keeps them in his pocket. In case of electric tools and fixtures, still greater, precautions is needed. Electric current can cause death.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Precautions in Using Hand Tools:
Particular care should be taken in using hand tools which are sharp.
Blunt tools should not be used.
Electric tools must be used with alertness. Loose or exposed electric connection at terminals, broken wires, broken plugs, sockets, broken switches, sparking brushes, improper ground wire connections, are likely to cause accidents and injuries, therefore, while handling them all precautions should be taken.
